In case you haven’t heard, Blue Origin is resuming flights to space on its suborbital New Shephard rocket.

After nearly 18 months grounded following a thermostructural anomaly (that’s aerospace company language for an engine explosion) that led to the destruction of the NS-23 booster (albeit with the safe deployment and function of the uncrewed capsule’s launch escape system, gently parachuting back to the Texas desert), Blue Origin has at last announced the next mission of its New Shephard rocket.

The company said the six-person crew of the NS-25 suborbital mission will include Ed Dwight. He was a U.S. Air Force pilot proclaimed as an astronaut candidate in the 1960s, and in fact was the first Black person to be considered. He graduated from the Air Force’s Aerospace Research Pilot School, achieving commendations, but was never granted the opportunity to actually become an astronaut. Now, Jeff Bezos’ rocket company is giving him the chance he’s been waiting decades for.

Dwight’s ticket was sponsored by Space For Humanity, a non-profit organization set on broadening access to space. Other passengers on the upcoming flight include the standard batch of risk-tolerant entrepreneurs and space advocates ready for their shot past the Karman Line.
